Follow-through from the previous week’s action was evident Monday, but traders eased into holiday mode thereafter. Framing lumber prices carried some upward momentum into the week, and the Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite Price posted at $2 gain. Traders digested recent purchases and kept new orders to a minimum. Year-end inventory taxes were a factor, while many traders sensed that they could cover near-term needs with little trouble.

Random Lengths Panel Market Report
The holiday-shortened week sapped energy from structural panel trading. Sales of OSB lacked urgency, and prices were unchanged in most producing regions. A number of buyers in the U.S. had filtered out of their offices by Wednesday morning. A dearth of activity followed steady early-week sales in Southern Pine plywood. After a quiet start, western Fir plywood trading picked up Tuesday, as traders covered near-term needs before heading out for the holiday. Volumes were not heavy.
