After indefinite closure in September, Canadian timber company Tolko Industries has now announced the definitive closure of the Kelowna sawmill in British Columbia. The closure will take place on 8 January 2020.

Tolko acquired the 2004 sawmill from Riverside Forest Products. It has a production capacity of 125 million board feet, equivalent to almost 300,000 m3 per year.

High roundwood prices and continued weak lumber market have meanwhile led to numerous sawmill closures in British Columbia, as well as other parts of Canada. Some 4.8 million m3 of production capacity were withdrawn from the market in British Columbia alone.
