Sweden: Lower stock volumes of roundwood by 12%

According to a report published by the Swedish Forestry Agency (SFA), the total stocks of coniferous sawlogs, pulpwood and wood chips in Sweden is estimated to an amount of 7.6 million m³ (cubic metres solid volume excluding bark) as of 30 June 2013. The total stocks is 12 percent lower than the first quarter of 2013, says SFA.

New from 2013 is that inventories of softwood sawlogs is reported quarterly instead of yearly data. Due to changes in survey from 2013 the comparisons with previous yearly figures should be made with caution.

Stock volumes of coniferous sawlogs fell 33 percent to 2.2 million m³ in the second quarter 2013 compared to first quarter 2013. There has been a decrease of stock volumes in all four wood balance regions. The stock volumes were largest in wood balance regions 1 and 4.

The total stocks of pulpwood amounted to 4.6 million m³ (cubic meters excluding bark) as at 30 June 2013. Stocks of pulpwood were 4 percent lower compared with the first quarter of 2013. The largest stocks of pulpwood consist of 2.7 million m³ of mixed softwood while stocks of spruce pulpwood and hardwood pulpwood accounted for 0.7 respective 1.2 million m³. Largest stock volumes of spruce pulpwood was in the wood balance region 1.

The stock volumes of wood chips was 0.8 million m³ in the second quarter of 2013.

After the checks and balances of the results for the first quarter of 2013 some revisions have been made. This is primarily for the wood balance region 1.
