Germany: Pellets more expensive in January

As usual for the winter season, the price of wood pellets in Germany increased in January 2019. The price is 1.7% higher as compared to December 2018 and 5.5% higher over January 2018. The current average price of wood pellets (for 6 tons purchases) in Germany is € 265.25/t.

Wood pellets have a price advantage over heating oil of just under 21 percent and over natural gas of approx. 10 percent.

The price for wood pellets in January 2019 has the following regional differences (purchase quantity of 6 t): At 261.23 EUR/t the cheapest pellets were in Central Germany. In northern and eastern Germany one ton of pellets costs 265,10 EUR, while in southern Germany 267,22 EUR.

Larger quantities (26 t) were traded in January 2019 under the following conditions: South: 252.32 EUR / t, Central: 242.67 EUR/t, North/East: 246.31 EUR/t (all incl. VAT).
