Dong plans to turn three Fossil Plants to Wood

The Danish energy company Dong Energy plans to convert three more coal-and gas-fired power plants into wood pellet fired plants by 2015. Today Dong uses around 1 million tons of wood pellets at its Danish plants. The conversions to wood will more than double DONG Energy's use to 2.5 million tons a year. DONG Energy now sources most of its biomass from the Baltic's, Poland and Russia. As for now this will be our main sources in the future, but we are also looking at other areas including Southern Europe and North America.

The decision for the rebuilding will be taken in in the first half of 2013. Dong Energy is planning to reduce its share of fossil fuels significantly. In 2040, 85% of its electricity and heat generation should come from renewable energy.
