Wood pellet prices in Austria declined slightly in March 2026, following a strong upward trend during the winter months, according to data published by proPellets Austria.
The average end-consumer price stood at around €406/t, marginally below February levels, signalling that the market has begun to stabilise as heating demand weakens toward the end of the season.
Prices had risen sharply earlier in the year, with February marking a peak, supported by colder weather and tighter supply. The March adjustment suggests that the seasonal pressure on prices is easing, although values remain significantly higher than in mid-2025.
Despite elevated price levels, pellets continue to offer a competitive heating option compared with fossil fuels such as natural gas and heating oil, helping sustain residential demand.
Looking ahead, further modest declines or stabilisation are expected in the coming months, in line with lower consumption during spring. However, broader energy market conditions and raw material availability will remain key factors influencing price developments ahead of the next heating season.
