Guyana: Top three timbers dominate export trade

During the period reviewed there were no shipments of greenheart logs but purpleheart logs were exported and at moderately attractive prices. Standard Sawmills quality purpleheart logs were priced at US$300 per cubic metre FOB. Mora logs were sold for a fair price to international buyers with mora Standard Sawmill quality logs fetching US$150 per cubic metre FOB. Fair Sawmill quality mora attracted an FOB price of US$140 while Small Sawmill quality mora logs were traded at US$130 per cubic metre FOB. [More... ]

In the last two weeks of August there were no exports of greenheart and purpleheart logs. However, mora logs were traded and secured better prices in the international markets for all categories. The top end prices for Standard quality was US$160 per cu.m FOB, Fair quality mora logs earned US$140 per cu.m FOB and Small quality prices were US$130 per cu.m FOB. Good prices secured for sawn greenheart and purpleheart Sawn Undressed greenheart (select) top end FOB prices increased from US$1,060 to US$1,230 per cubic metre and greenheart (merchantable) export prices were also favourable at US$636 per cubic metre FOB. The main markets for this prime timber were Caribbean nations, Europe and North America. Undressed purpleheart (select) FOB prices moved up and the best price secured was US$1,100 per cubic metre FOB. Guyana: Sawnwood prices vary in market with little direction

Sawnwood exports made a fair contribution to total export earnings and FOB prices have been encouraging prices during the past weeks. Undressed greenheart (Select category) top end FOB prices dipped from US$1,357 to US$ 1,060 per cubic metre. During the period of this report FOB prices for Undressed greenheart (Sound category) earned a top end price of US$806 per cubic metre while Undressed greenheart (Merchantable category) FOB prices moved up from US$551 to US$594 per cubic metre.
