Kaufmann Holz, a subsidiary of the Stallinger group, has recently received the authorization to sell glulam on the U.S. market. The Austrian company is the first glulam producer in Central Europe licensed to export glulam to the U.S.

Until now, only limited volumes of Austrian and German glulam were sold in the U.S., under a license held by a single trading agency.

At the beginning of October, Stallinger-Kaufmann received the products’ certification from the West Coast Lumber Inspection Bureau (WCLIB), after 18 months of thorough technical tests. The tests were especially focused on automatic stress grading of the lumber used in glulam manufacturing. It is widely known that Douglas fir and Southern Pine is preferred to European spruce in the U.S.

Initially, Stallinger-Kaufmann will offer its 24F-1,8E beams which will be sold through Stallinger’s softwood lumber distributors in the US.
