Producer prices for softwood lumber have significantly decreased in October compared to September 2011. Especially, boards reduced in price. Versus the figures of the previous year, softwood without KVH (finger-jointed squares and beams) is still higher in price.
Seasonally, prices of pellets have hardened. Engineered wood products prices are stable. MDF shows the only significant increase in the monthly comparison. Prices for raw particleboard have decreased slightly.
Producer price statistics reflect the situation of the hardwood sawmills in no way. For many hardwood companies the situation is precarious. Sales of Beech lumber stagnates both in export and in domestic markets. Just good Oak lumber is still having buyers.
