Economists expect sluggish growth in Euro Area

The recovery in the Eurozone is expected to continue at a moderate pace. Real gross domestic product is estimated to increase by 1.5% in 2015, and by 0.4% in comparison to the previous quarters in both Q1 and Q2 2016. Private consumption is set to continue to be the main driver behind the upturn, stimulated by a renewed drop in oil prices and higher earnings on labour. Production of all major forest products exceeds levels seen prior to economic crisis

Global production of all major wood products is showing its largest growth since the global economic downturn of 2008-2009. In 2014, growth in wood products, including industrial roundwood, sawnwood, wood-based panels and pulp and paper, ranged from 1 to 5 percent, surpassing the pre-recession levels of 2007. Enviva acquires 500,000 t/yr pellet plant in U.S.

Enviva Partners recently announced it has acquired a 510,000-ton-per-year pellet plant located in Southampton County, Virginia. The facility was developed by its sponsor, Enviva Holdings LP, under a joint venture with affiliates of John Hancock Life Insurance Co. The Southampton facility began operations in November 2013. It is one of five pellet plants owned by Enviva prior to the initial public offering filed by Enviva Partners in October 2014... [more...]

France: Maritime pine maintains firm prices

Good news for forest owners in southwestern France. In a French softwood roundwood market that has generally tended to falter, maritime pine stands firm this year. Over the course of the first half of 2015, prices have aligned at high levels, while over the last six months of the year, price stability prevailed. This observation applies in particular for roundwood with a volume larger than 1 m3, intended for producing lumber.
