    The EU: wood pellets imports from the US increased with 76% in 2012

    As the US became the largest wood pellet exporter in the world at the end of 2012, surpassing Canada, the EU market seems to massively increase its imports. Due to the high development of wood pellet production capacity in US South, the EU imports from the US almost doubled, from 1,001,117 tons in 2011 to 1,735,608 in 2012, a rise of 73%. [more...]

    EU: Wood pellets imports from Russia up 32% in 2012

    Being the third EU wood pellets supplier after the US and Canada, Russia is gradually expanding its exports to the European countries. With a 32% increase in 2012 (reaching 627,211 tons), Russia is becoming a solid provider of wood pellets for the EU, especially for countries from the Northern part of Europe, like Denmark, Sweden or Finland.     Poland's softwood chips imports from Belarus almost tripled in 2012

    If in 2011, Poland mainly imported its softwood chips from the EU countries, in 2012 this situation changed. According to Eurostat, an increase of 229% of softwood chips imports from Belarus, in 2012, changed the balance, making Belarus the largest source of imports for Poland (with a rise from 73,245 tons in 2011 to 240,245 tons in 2012).
