random lengths While prices of some framing lumber species staved off weakness, others cracked or broke decidedly to the downside. Southern Pine was especially weak, with key items posting double-digit decreases. Prices also softened at western mills. Western and Eastern S-P-F were most resistant to the downside pressure. The Random Lengths Framing Lumber Composite Price dropped $2 to $341. Nonetheless, Canadian mills were assured of another drop in the tiered tax on shipments to the U.S. during July.

Structural panel markets played to mixed reviews. OSB prices in all regions continued to grind higher. Larger-than-usual spreads between producing regions allowed sellers to ship into non-traditional markets. Southern Pine plywood producers accepted moderate counters on thicker sheathing to clear prompt loads. Western Fir producers reported strong sales of CCX to Canada, 9- and 10-foot panels to California, and 1-1/8-inch and 3/8-inch panels for agriculture bin builders.
