German Spruce Lumber Exports in Q1 Negative

In the 1st Quarter of 2011, German sawmills exported less Spruce Lumber. In March, the statistics of the German Federal Statistical Office Destatis, indeed shows an increase of 2.8%, but this is still not enough to offset losses placed in January (-19%). Germany: Planed Spruce Lumber Exports in March 2011

In March 2011, exports of planed Spruce lumber have increased considerably and leveled the weak deliveries in January and February 2011. For the first Quarter of 2011, exports showed an increase of 14% to 140,000 m³. The average prices over all destinations rose by 16% to € 233/m³ in the third month.... [more...]

EOS: Slight Improvement In Sawn Hardwood Production

Compared to softwood, the hardwood sawmilling sector could report only a minor improvement of its situation in 2010. Production increased by a modest 4.3% and should continue to increase throughout 2011 by another 3%, said the European Organisation of the Sawmill Industry (EOS) in its current market report.... European Softwood Lumber Production Recovered

In 2010, the European softwood lumber production increased by 9% to 75 million cubic meters. The European Sawmill Association (EOS) estimates, that the lowest point in 2009 was passed. However, it is still a long way back to the record production of 2007. For 2011, production is expected to grow by 2.2% and for 2012 by 2.5%.... [more...]

Germany: Beech Log Exports 80% up in Q1

Germany's Beech log exports rose by 149% in March 2011 compared to the same month last year. For the first Quarter 2011, the increase was 79.7%. Accelerating deliveries to China (+101%), direct or indirect via Denmark (+838%), caused that strong increase. Egger Expands in Russia

The Tyrolean Egger Group will take over the Russian particle board manufacturer OOO Gagarinskiy Fanerniy Zavod at Gagarin, 150 km west of Moscow. The purchase contract was signed on May 20th, the purchase price was not disclosed. The acquisition of the Russian particle board producer was carried out subject to the approval of Russian cartel authorities. The Gagarin site includes a raw particleboard line with a capacity of 500,000 m³, a further processing capacity of 20 million square meters as well as a forest company with about 80,000 hectares....
