West Africa: Prices of redwoods ease for French market
Prices for francophone African species remained largely unchanged. However, prices of redwoods tend to ease for the French market. Buyers for that market are beginning to insist on lower offer prices
for the main species, moabi, douka and sipo, covering both logs and lumber. Gabon exporters say this is due to lower prices asked by
Cameroonian shippers.
Although the price difference has not affected other countries, it has caused a slight weakening of the overall market outlook. Presently, this might amount to only 3-5 euro/m3 for a few species which are popular in France. However, exporters do not expect any fall in general price levels.
Prices for China remain unchanged amid very active trade. Demand from India continues to strengthen with prices remaining firm.
