The Swedish association of forest owners (Mellanskog) has announced a price increase for pine and spruce sawlogs. The price will go up by SEK 25/cubic meter (around EUR 2.66/m3) for ranges with 18 cm diameter and thicker. The new prices are valid starting this autumn for the following Swedish regions: Stockholm, Orebro, Sodermanland, Vastmanland, Uppsala, Gavleborg and Harjedalen. For the regions of Dalarna, Varmland and Gotland it is not yet clear if the prices will rise or not, Mellanskog said in a press release.

Pulpwood prices will remain unchanged until further announcements.

Sture Karlsson, CEO of Mellanskog, commented: ''It's important that our members can take advantage of the strong timber demand at this moment. It is unclear if the activity of sawmills has benefits, however, the profitability and Swedish exports take advantage of the weaker Swedish Krona''.

With 32,000 members in central Sweden, Mellanskog is the Swedish second-biggest association of forest owners. Together its members own more than 1.7 million hectares of forestland.
