Södra will raise the price for standard sawlogs in pine and spruce by SEK 20 (EUR 2,16) per cubic metre solid volume underbark (m³sub). At the same time, a temporary contracting premium of SEK 20/m³sub will be introduced to stimulate early contracting.

"Sawn timber production is high in southern Sweden and driving demand for sawlogs. Our aim is to maintain a high level of contracting to meet the high production rate at our sawmills," says Håkan Larsson, President of the Södra Skog business area.

According to the company, the balance between supply and demand in the finished goods market is fragile. Following a strong start to the year, the sawn timber market has slowed somewhat, says Södra.

"Södra's sawmills are performing well and the high rate of production will continue. However, sawn timber is subject to price pressure in some markets and the forecast remains uncertain for autumn," says Håkan Svensson, president of the Södra Wood business area.

The price changes will apply from 25 May 2015.
